Nine Inch Nails Trent Reznor responds to 'Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' rumors

Remember those rumors about Oscar-winning composer Trent Reznor appearing in Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?  Remember how some people scoffed at those rumors, declaring them to be the most unlikely rumors ever to be rumored?  Well, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has just responded to 'em, and we've got the full text of that response for you below, my gentle Examiner readers...

Last week, word started to spread about what might be next on Oscar-winning composer Trent Reznor's (oh, how satisfying it is to write that) to-do list:  the first was a follow-up to his How to Destroy Angels project, another was the soundtrack for David Fincher's upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and the last-- and weirdest-- was the score for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  Doesn't sound all that strange at first...until you learn that Reznor was rumored to be acting in the film, as well.  As the vampire that kills Abraham Lincoln's mother.  So, yeah, not the likeliest thing we'd ever heard.

The truth?  For that, we had to wait for Reznor to respond to the rumors himself.  Thankfully, the Nine Inch Nails frontman did just that recently on the NIN forums.  Here's what he had to say (be prepared for a big-ass block quote):

"What a surreal week, capping of an equally surreal few months! Thank you all for the support and kind words throughout. I need to once again point out the reason that score worked so well was David Fincher. We were simply executing his vision and it was an honor and an eduction working with him. Which brings me to:

The Girl WIth the Dragon Tattoo. Atticus and I are hard at work scoring David's next film, which will be opening this Christmas. We've been composing quite a bit of music for this and have just begun to see some of what's been shot. Trust me when I say this film (and of course the music!) will not disappoint.

Perhaps I misspoke on the red carpet or wherever it was I said the new How To Destroy Angels record is finished - it is not. We've been working since last summer on it and are due to mix it this summer for a fall release. We've spent a lot of time experimenting and finding our own sound and identity this time around and we're very happy with the results. The three columns of things I'm currently funneling music into - HTDA, NIN and film work - I believe will start to make more sense to you (and me) as everything unfolds. By having a few different outlets for my work I'm finding more inspiration within each one. No, Nine Inch Nails is not dead and I plan to focus on that next.

And finally, I am friends with Timur Bekmambetov. He's an interesting and very talented director that caught my attention with his film Night Watch (check it out if you haven't). He asked me if I was interested in scoring his new film he's doing with Tim Burton entitled "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter". I was familiar with the book, read the script and it felt like an interesting challenge as a composer - very different from the Fincher films. While discussing the film with Timur he started gently pressing me to play a small role in the film. The idea was a cameo-esque role that would be kept under wraps and be a surprise around opening night. I was considering this when I awoke a few days ago to the news I am now STARRING in ALVH (which is obviously not true). Fuck. We both apparently forgot the internet existed AND THERE ARE NO SURPRISES anymore.

So... do me a favor and act surprised, OK?"

In the war against vampires, mankind has only one hope: The Dark-Hunters. Ancient warriors who died of brutal betrayal, the Dark-Hunters have sworn themselves into the service of the goddess Artemis to protect us. Volume 4 continues the tale of Talon and Sunshine. The Dark Hunters manga is based on the series of novels by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and I’ll admit it, I am a HUGE Kenyon fangirl! If I were to ever meet this author, there would definitely be some girly squealing of joy. While the manga isn’t as good as the books, they’re still pretty fantastic.

Chibi Vampire: The Novel Volume 8 by Tohru Kai and Yuna Kagesaki
About Karin, who is a reverse vampire - instead of sucking blood, she injects it into her victims and fills them with vitality! Concerned about who will protect Karin when she awakens as a full vampire, Anju collaborates with renegade vampire Noel to test Kenta's loyalty. Noel bites Kenta, draining him temporarily of his usual responsible, dedicated, and hardworking tendencies. While she's at it, she hypnotizes him and instills in him the idea that vampires are humans' enemies - including Karin! Suddenly, Kenta's behavior towards Karin changes dramatically, and the hapless blood-increasing vampire has no idea what's come over her sweetheart.
Coming out March 1, 2011.

Vampire Cheerleaders Volume 1 by Adam Arnold, Shiei and Comipa
The Bakertown High School cheerleading squad has a secret: behind all their pretty make-up and short skirts are five hungry vampires who sure know how to show their school spirit! When one of their own turns up missing, the senior cheerleaders have no other choice but to induct one of the eleventh grade girls from the B Squad into their vixenous ranks. But siring new recruit Heather Hartley is the easy part...keeping a sheltered virgin from not going wild and draining the entire football team on the eve of their big homecoming game is another matter!
Coming out March 15, 2011.

'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' star Anthony Mackie: Our movie will be educational

It was a bestselling book that's now a highly anticipated movie, but can "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," a story that has the 16th president exacting revenge on the vampires who killed members of his family, also be a teaching tool?

Anthony Mackie, who stars in next year's Fox film opposite Benjamin Walker, says the tale will contain plenty of nutritional value. "It's not so much fictional as it is a recontextualization of history," Mackie, who plays Lincoln valet and friend William Johnson, told 24 Frames. "There are actual moments and things that happened in the annals of time. Abraham Lincoln's friend William Johnson really was a freed man of color."

Like Seth Grahame-Smith's book, the movie -- which will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov and produced by Tim Burton --  assumes the existence of vampires in the 19th century as the nation was on the brink of Civil War. As the story progresses, we learn that the creatures have a sinister investment in keeping slavery legal. Lincoln's personal animus toward the vampires for what they did to his family drives him to hunt them down, a crusade he continues even from the White House as he pursues an abolitionist agenda.

Robert Pattinson's Trauma Over Kristen Stewart

It seems that poor Robert Pattinson, the star of Twilight is hunted all the time by paparazzi.

Vanity Fair's article:

“Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been hounded incessantly about their off-screen relationship, to the point that its wearing on their nerves, the vampire tells Vanity Fair in a widely anticipated interview.

“It’s just very traumatic,” Pattinson says of his rumored romance. “When this is over,” meaning the “Twilight Saga” films, “the media will lose interest [in the relationship].

There’ll be nothing to say. It won’t fit into a headline anymore. It won’t fit into a template,” he says

He can only hope. Pattinson and Stewart have become the biggest on-screen romance of their 20-something generation."

Tri-Cities in best-selling urban fantasy series

Be careful walking along the Columbia River on a clear, moonlit night.
There just might be a werewolf, a vampire, a witch or even a river monster lurking nearby.
But for those occasions when the supernatural creeps into the homes and onto the streets of Kennewick or Richland, the Tri-Cities also has its very own version of a superheroine -- Mercedes Thompson, the tough, sexy, tattooed, shapeshifting Volkswagen mechanic featured by novelist Patricia Briggs in her best-selling book series.
Thompson, known as "Mercy" to her friends and family, has battled her way through hordes of the undead, the magical and the things that go bump in the night in five novels since 2006, two of which hit No. 1 on the New York Times fiction bestseller list.
The character takes on a few new challenges -- not the least of which is marriage to the Tri-City werewolf pack leader -- in Briggs' sixth novel in the series, which hits shelves Tuesday.
Fans have bought more than a half-million of the Mercy Thompson books. And around 300,000 of her 11 other novels published since 1993 have been sold.

Sexy Vampire of the Day - february 27

Our sexy vampire of the day is a picture called "The Turning". Scary, fascinating, sexy, isn't it?

Vampire Sex & ‘Breaking Dawn’ by Peter Facinelli

Interesting interview on Vampires.com...
"The Breaking Dawn flicks may still be in the process of filming but that’s not stopping the actors from going out and sharing all sorts of goodies about the last two Twilight movies with fans. Access Hollywood recently got with Peter Facinelli, better known as Dr. Carlisle Cullen, to chat about the films and… vampire sex.
Peter was pretty hush hush about the secrets of Breaking Dawn, but the interviewer did manage to get him talking by asking one question we all want the answer to:
“Just give us a small nugget for all the Twi-hards…something like, is there vampire sex?”
“Well, yeah, for sure,” Peter joked. “Not for Carlisle, he’s 350!”
“Viagra can’t even help him at that point!” added the interviewer.
“Vampire Viagra,” Peter said with a laugh.
Peter then moved on to the actual films, saying that he’s excited about the plot developments.
“We have baby vampires, lots of fun stuff going on in that movie. Eclipse was my favorite book, but I think Breaking Dawn is my favorite script. I really like what they did with them. There’s a lot of fun surprises for the audience.”

Vampires.com Interview With J.W. Morehead; Topics Include Bill Schnoebelen & Vampire Religion

J.W. Morehead is a scholar who made it his mission in life to learn more about obscure religions, and counter-culture, such as Vampirism, Satanism, Wicca, Spiritualism, and other subcultures, as well as their role in modern society. He's also the Director of the Western Institute for Intercultural Studies, which makes its mission to educate Christians about new religions, and subcultures. He wrote a great comment on our coverage of Bill Schnoebelen's 'Interview with an Ex Vampire', and we thought you'd like to hear some opinions (other than mine) about vampire and other alternative culture from a Christian with an open mind.
Q. Tell us about your philosophy on the vampire subculture, and its evolution through the popular film culture eras, --what do you think about vampire culture and its changes over the decades and what do you think of today's vampire culture?
A. Thank you again for the invitation to respond to some questions. I came across your website through a Facebook post by Merticus Stevens with the Atlanta Vampire Alliance who shared a website post on Bill Schnoebelen. Of course, he is notorious for his claims of being an "ex-" from any number of religions, new religions, and identity groups, including a former vampire. I initially took your post to be referring to Schnoebelen with some kind of credibility in terms of an "expose," and I decided to share my concerns with you on your website and through email. I'm glad to see that I mistook your understanding of Schnoebelen. I'm happy to engage in a conversation about my thoughts on vampires, and that related to Schnoebelen's claims. By way of background, I am a scholar with a background in cultural and religious studies, as well as theology, with a special emphasis in new religious movements. Some of my research foci include what has been called popular "occulture" and various groups, movements, and identities within this, including vampires. I also have an interest in religion and film studies related to the fantastic genres of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. These elements come together as personal and academic research areas which gives me an opportunity to write on related topics in various venues.

Sexy Vampire of the Day - february 25

From now we are starting the "Sexy Vampire Girl of the Day" pictures series! This is our first one...

Could It Be? Slain Vampire Back for More on True Blood Season 4?

Season 4 as a very familiar face that we thought we had seen the last of is coming back!

According to TVLine Allan Hyde will reprise his role as Eric’s late, forever young-looking maker Godric when the HBO drama resumes this summer.

Even more interesting, "True Blood" executive producer Alan Ball told the site that fans will be seeing “a different side of Godric.” Very cool! Let's just hope the re-addition of this character doesn't get lost amongst the several thousand plot lines of last season. Time to get things back on track, fangbangers!

Who’s The Better Role Model – Elena Or Bella?

One of entertainment’s many battles is Elena versus Bella – who is prettier, who has a better vampire boyfriend, who is the better role model… and the list goes on and on. But today, we’re going to discuss the latter, who is the better role model? Is it Twilight’s Bella or The Vampire Diaries’ Elena? Personally, I’m voting for Elena, I love her character and absolutely despise Bella, here’s why:

1. Bella is weak and helpless. She’s your classic pathetic damsel in distress. She constantly needs to be rescued by her big strong men, since she is incapable of saving herself. However, Elena is a badass that has no problem fighting for herself. Yes, she also has men protecting her, but in the end she doesn’t need them. Do you remember the last episode? Elena took down an ancient vampire all on her own! I’d like to see Bella attempt that.
2. Bella is a huge pushover. She lets Edward and Jacob boss her around constantly and puts up with Edward’s ridiculous passive aggression. When she does try to stand up for herself, she gets shot right back down and that’s that. Elena on the other hand, well, that girl calls the shots. She tells it how it is and flat out said that they’re going to do things her way. She lets her voice be heard; she doesn’t sulk and shut up.
3. Bella can’t function on her own. When Edward left her she turned into a giant sack of crazy. She flipped the fuck out and turned into a suicidal mess. During Elena and Stefan’s break, she flat out said, “I’m not going to be one of those pathetic girls whose world stops spinning because of some guy.”

Twilight: Noel Fisher (Vladimir) Interview

Noel Fisher will be playing Vladimir in Breaking Dawn.

Check out his interview with About.com.
Here is an excerpt:
I know you’re not allowed to say much about Breaking Dawn, but have you shot your scenes yet?
Noel Fisher: “Yes, actually. I’m back in Los Angeles because I have a two week break. We are done with the Louisiana portion – we’re all done with that. The biggest part of my character stuff is done. We have some more stuff; I get to go back home to Vancouver for the first time to work. That will be kind of fun – it’s a nice way to go back home. So, we’re going to go up and shoot a couple more things up there. That’s been a lot of fun. Everyone’s really cool.”

Vampire Diaries: Candice Accola Interview with TV Line

TV Line’s Meg Masters caught up with Candice Accola today. She talks Matt & Caroline, and the dreaded, but inevitable death that’s coming up.

TVLINE | Kevin Williamson has revealed that no one is safe going into the end of the season. What are you thoughts on the impending Vampire Diaries death(s)?

Candice Accola: Day one of us all getting to Atlanta, we were very plainly told that we’re on a vampire show and characters will be killed off — that’s just the premise. So it’s been in the back of our minds, but it’s hard.
There are always going to be more job opportunities, but we’ve been really fortunate with the people we have had the opportunity to work with. Everyone’s just so wonderful to be around so it’d be unfortunate. When you’re part of a series, you become such a close-knit family — it’s been almost two years that we’ve been working together. It’s sad and difficult, but at the same time we know that it’s coming — although we really don’t know who it’s going to be. We feel the anticipation just as much as the audience does.

Jumping on a VAMPIRE: Scott Snyder Invites You to Try AMVAMP

Readers may have wondered if American Vampire would survive the exit of star writer Stephen King, but the comic is apparently still doing so well that Vertigo has announced a spin-off mini-series.
The comic is also part of the "Jumping-On Points" program, which means DC is including a two-page recap in the front of next month's Issue #13, labeling the title as something fans should check out.
Scott Snyder, who created the "AmVamp" universe with artist Rafael Albuquerque, launched the title last year with the help of King. As this week's issue #12 comes out, the series will take a one-shot break to focus on the original American vampire, Skinner Sweet, before starting its third story arc in March.

'The Vampire Diaries' 'The House Guest' spoilers: A twist is on the way!

Vampire Diaries fans are not going to want to miss Thursday’s episode, “The House Guest,” airing at 8PM on CW 11 in Queens. If knowing that Katherine is out of the tomb and insisting on sticking around isn’t enough, there are certainly enough spoilers to keep you interested.

“Katherine’s mind games are getting on everyone’s nerves, but Damon, Stefan and Elena realize that her knowledge of Mystic Falls history will help them stay alive. Frustrated with her relationship with Matt, Caroline finds a new way to get his attention. Alaric makes a surprising confession to Jenna, and Katherine makes a different kind of confession to Damon. Stefan and Bonnie try to convince Jonas and Luka that they should all be working together, but Jonas’ lack of trust leads to a violent and fiery confrontation.”

According to Michael Ausiello at TVLine, there will be “two deaths, one super-romantic Matt/Caroline scene, and…a doozy of a twist” in “The House Guest.” Just looking at the press release for the episode, it sounds like at least one of those deaths will take place in the confrontation with Jonas—so it sounds like either Jonas or Luka (or both) may be meeting their deaths this Thursday.

Patients seeking new youth try 'vampire facelift'

AUSTIN — Christina Ceridwen, 40, doesn't want to look forever young... but a little more youthful would be nice.
"I'm not as young as I used to be," she said with a laugh.
Ceridwen is among those coming from across the region to an Austin clinic for a new cosmetic procedure dubbed the "vampire facelift" because it uses a patient's own blood.
"I like the idea of injecting my own blood back into me rather than a foreign substance," Ceridwen said.  "I'm hoping it'll just give me a little more confidence in myself when I go back out there into the dating world."
During the procedure, a tube of blood is taken from the patient, then spun in a centrifuge to separate platelet-rich plasma, or PRP.
"The theory is, by getting these platelets and re-injecting them into the skin, we get a cascade of reactions that release growth-factors," explained Dr. Michael Escobedo, who is among the few physicians in the country trying out the vampire facelift for facial rejuvenation.
Unlike a real facelift, this treatment requires no surgery.

Tim Burton to revive vampire series

Tim Burton, a man known for his surreal take on classic stories this week cast his unusual sights on making a film based on the classic television series "Dark Shadows."
"Shadows" ran on ABC from 1966-1971 and tells the story of Barnabas Collins, a vampire seeking his lost love Josette. Johnny Depp, Burton's frequent leading man, is already signed on to play Barnabas. Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green and Burton's partner Helena Bonham Carter are also connected with the project.
The original series became noteworthy as a soap opera with a vampire theme. Ironically, the main character, Barnabas, wasn't introduced until the show was already in progress. Although originally envisioned to serve a brief stint on the show, Barnabas' popularity led to him becoming the star of the show.
You can read more about Depp as a vamp HERE.

Vampire Circus

Back in 1972, Hammer Studios found itself in a good and bad place as far as vampire movies go. On the one hand, they were pretty close to having squeezing every drop they could out of both "Dracula" and "Carmilla." Yet audience demand remained. One solution they hit upon was a series of original films about the undead, but made in the same manner.
"Vampire Circus" may be the best example of this. It story certainly mined well-known resources used by Hammer until then. The handsome, decadent aristocrat with fangs. Many a lovely young lady with plenty of cleavage to heave in terror (or lust). Long, bestial fangs and plenty of (too) bright and (too) thick blood. A fire. Makeshift crosses and other anti-vampire weapons (decades before Buffy). A story of revenge, first by villagers against the monster preying upon them, then by the vampire himself on his enemies for daring to defend themselves. An Eastern European village filled with English stereotypes, albeit having German names, all set in a vaguely mid-nineteenth century era somewhere inside the Austrian Empire.
